I did not grow up loving breakfast. I especially hated the American style breakfasts of bacon, eggs, hashbrowns and toast.
But as I’ve gotten older, I have developed a new love for breakfast and breakfast-adjacent foods.
That is why I am SO EXCITED to share my sugar free blueberry jam recipe with you!
Store Bought VS Homemade Jam
I’ve tried both the Smucker’s and Polaner brand of sugar free blueberry jam and they’re fine! I am really happy that more sugar free products are coming out and are more accessible to the public.
However, homemade jam is just a million times better in every way possible. There is just something about knowing every ingredient put into something and making it yourself.
The blueberry flavor is also much more pronounced in a homemade jam! Somehow, the blueberry flavor either gets slightly muted or tastes too artificial in the store bought brands.
What To Eat With Sugar Free Blueberry Jam?
You can use this jam the same way you use any regular jam. My personal favorite is on a piece if sourdough toast with butter.
My kids have also really enjoyed the jam on top of pancakes, waffles, and French toast.
Other innovative ways I’ve used this jam is with yogurt and ice cream. I like to get a very basic flavor like vanilla or original and then take a tablespoon of the jam to mix in.
Dunkin Donuts has a blueberry syrup that they add to their coffees. There’s also a local coffee shop near me that has a blueberry latte. Though I haven’t tried it, I feel like this jam could taste great in an iced tea or coffee!
How To Make Sugar Free Blueberry Jam
The first thing you’re going to do is add your blueberries and water to a saucepan.
Then, once the water boils, reduce your heat to a simmer. After about ten minutes when some of the water has evaporated and the blueberries start releasing their juices, turn off the heat and mash them.
I used the back of my spoon but you can use a potato masher for greater efficiency. I just don’t have fun kitchen tools.
Next, stir in lemon juice, chia seeds and monkfruit sweetener until well combined.
Transfer to airtight containers and let cool before transfering to the refrigerator.
How To Store Leftovers
I like to store leftovers in mason jars but any airtight glass container will work. I recommend this one from Amazon!
Leftovers will last up to two weeks in the refrigerator.
Can I Freeze Leftover Jam
You can freeze this jam but I highly recommend using an airtight container to do so. When you’re ready to use the jam, take it out of the freezer and let it thaw in the refrigerator.

Notes
Variations
There are a ton of variations that you can do with this recipe.
Different Sweeteners
I chose monkfruit sweetener because my brothers are partial to it, but you can choose any sugar free sweetener you’d like such as xylitol or Stevia.
Incorporating Extracts
If you’re a fan of subtle flavors at the end, you can add a splash of vanilla or almond extract to your jam.
Other Binders
In this recipe, the chia seeds act as a binder for the jam. I also like the added texture that chia seeds give. If you don’t have chia seeds, you can use xanthan gum or cornstarch.
Adding Spices
Adding a dash of cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom or ginger could really elevate your jam.
Adding Herbs
Surprisingly, savory herbs like mint, thyme and rosemary pair really well with blueberries. I recommend adding a sprig to your jam for added flavor!
Conclusion
There are some things that intimidate me in the kitchen like baking desserts and kneading dough.
Making jams and jellies used to also intimidate me, but now that I’ve done it I can tell you firsthand that it truly is very simple and really delicious!
I hope you give this sugar free blueberry jam a try.
