Disclaimer: I am NOT sponsored by Starbucks. I am just a girl that loves silly beverages.
Starbucks is still going with the craziness this year and has just introduced a new lineup of drinks featuring the Summer-Berry Refreshers base.
The three new drinks available for limited time are the Summer-Berry Starbucks Refreshers Beverage, the Summer-Berry Lemonade Starbucks Refreshers Beverage, and the Summer Skies Drink.
Starbucks Summer-Berry Refresher Base Ingredients
According to their website, the Summer Bery Base contains water, sugars (sugar, white grape juice concentrate), natural flavors, spirulina concentrate, vegetable juice concentrate (sweet potato, carrot), citric acid, green coffee extract (for flavor), carrageenan, and stevia extract (rebaudioside-A).
Raspberry Flavored Pearls Ingredients
According to their website, the Raspberry Flavored Pearls contains water, sugar, calcium lactate, sodium alginate, vegetable juice concentrate (sweet potato, carrot), citric acid, xanthan gum, natural flavor, calcium chloride, and potassium sorbate.
How Much Sugar Is In Starbucks Summer-Berry Refresher Base
The summer berry refreshers base has 15g of sugar in a grande size.
To get this answer, I had to call corporate. I mentioned this is my Lower Sugar Starbucks Spicy Beverages blog post, but I really dislike the lack of transparency that Starbucks has on the sugar content in their drinks.
How Much Sugar Is In Starbucks Raspberry Popping Pearls
There are 5g of sugar per scoop of raspberry popping pearls.
Again, had to call corporate for this answer.
What Are The Summer-Berry Refreshers Drinks?
The Summer-Berry Starbucks Refreshers beverages include the Summer-Berry Starbucks Refresher, the Summer-Berry Lemonade Starbucks Refresher, and the Summer Skies Drink.
What Is In The Summer-Berry Refreshers Drinks?
All of the drinks in the Summer-Berry Refreshers lineup utilize the Summer-Berry Refreshers base.
The Summer-Berry Starbucks Refreshers Beverage includes water, the Summer-Berry base, popping raspberry pearls and ice.
A Summer-Berry Lemonade Starbucks Refreshers Beverage includes lemonade, the Summer-Berry base, popping raspberry pearls and ice.
The Summer Skies Drink includes coconut milk, the Summer-Berry base, popping raspberry pears and ice.
How Much Do The Starbucks Summer-Berry Refreshers Drinks Cost?
Costs will vary by location but by me the prices are as follows:
- Grande Summer-Berry Starbucks Refreshers Beverage: $6.44
- Grande Summer-Berry Lemonade Starbucks Refreshers Beverage: $6.98
- Grande Summer Skies Drink: $6.98
- Summer-Berry Base: $1.00
- Popping Raspberry Pearls: $1.25 per scoop
What Do The Starbucks Summer-Berry Refreshers Taste Like?
Being Asian, I feel like I have very strong opinions about boba/bubbles/pearls.
Personally, I am not a fan of popping pearls because it tastes like juice wrapped in plastic to me. I would much prefer the chewy tapioca pearls instead.
I also don’t love the taste of the Summer-Berry Refreshers base because I am generally not into blue raspberry and that is what it tastes like to me.
All of it just feels like a cash grab with Starbucks hopping on trends.
Can I Get Starbucks Summer-Berry Refreshers Sugar Free?
No, you can not get the Summer-Berry Refreshers sugar free. This is because the Summer-Berry Refreshers base has sugar in it.
How Much Sugar Is In Starbucks Summer-Berry Refreshers?
A grande Summer-Berry Starbucks Refreshers Beverage has 25g of sugar.
The grande Summer-Berry Lemonade Starbucks Refreshers Beverage has 37g of sugar.
A grande Summer Skies Drink has 29g of sugar.
How To Modify For Lower Sugar
Lower Sugar Summer-Berry Refreshers Beverage
For this drink, I would reduce the amount of Summer-Berry Refreshers base by adding water. The app doesn’t have this customization but you can ask for it at the drive through or at the counter.
I would also ask for one scoop of raspberry popping pearls instead of two.
With these modifications, your drink will be reduced from 25g of sugar to 12.5g.
AND BEFORE YOU COME FOR ME: I know that by doing this you’re basically paying the same amount of money for less things and more water. So you could of course just get the drink as is and then cut it with water when you get home. I am just here to give options.
Lower Sugar Summer-Berry Lemonade Starbucks Refreshers Beverage
For this drink, I would do light lemonade and one scoop of raspberry popping pearls instead of two.
When lemonade is added to a beverage, it adds 11g of sugar. If you get light lemonade, they give you half of the normal amount.
With these modifications, your drink will be reduced from 37g of sugar to 26.5g. You can reduce it even further by reducing the amount of refresher base as well, but I would not advise this because the flavor will be very dulled.
Lower Sugar Summer Skies Drink
For this drink, the only customization I would do is reduce the amount of raspberry popping pearls from two scoops to one.
This will take your drink from 29g to 24g of sugar.
There really isn’t too much you can do to lower the sugar for this drink. You could reduce the amount of Refreshers base, but the coconut milk would really be all that you’d taste. You could also substitute the coconut milk for almond milk to save a couple of grams of sugar, but I would not personally recommend that.
Other Summer-Berry Drink Orders
If these drinks are supposed to be inspired by the bubble tea trend, I feel like there should be tea in the order!
I think the Summer-Berry refreshers base would taste quite nice mixed with an unsweetened iced black tea or green tea.
I also think the raspberry popping pearls would be great in an unsweetened iced black tea or green tea as well.
Conclusion
I hope you enjoyed this article about lower sugar Starbucks Summer-Berry Refreshers orders!
