Disclaimer: I am NOT sponsored by Dunkin. I just like fun drinks. I’m a silly simple girl who likes silly little beverages.
I’m not going to lie, I have a love hate relationship with Dunkin. I know that their recipes for their drinks are standardized but I swear it varies. When you get the right Dunkinista, my advice is to hold onto her like your first born child.
Dunkin’s Fall Menu is a little interesting! They (of course) have your pumpkin items, but they also have some really interesting drink combos that aren’t typically on a fall menu. They’ve also added some food items that are worth exploring too (that I may write a separate blog post about).
So let’s go over all the fall offerings and see what the best low sugar Dunkin fall drinks are!
What is the difference between a flavor swirl and a flavor shot?
Before we get into what the best low sugar Dunkin fall drinks are, I do think it’s important to discuss the difference between a flavor swirl and a flavor shot at Dunkin.
The flavor swirls at Dunkin are NOT sugar free.
The flavor shots at Dunkin ARE sugar free.
What sugar free flavors are available at Dunkin Donuts?
The flavor shot flavors currently available at Dunkin are vanilla, hazelnut, toasted almond, blueberry, raspberry and coconut.
Flavor shots are dairy free.
What seasonal flavor swirls are available at Dunkin?
Dunkin is currently carrying pumpkin syrup that you can add to any drink. I have found syrups like the brown sugar syrup, caramel, French vanilla and butter pecan complement the pumpkin syrup really well.
According to Reddit, one pump of pumpkin syrup has 12g of sugar. Personally, this sounds a bit high to me for one pump.
I did the math for the other flavor swirls using the tool on Dunkin’s website and here is the nutrition information for the other flavor swirls:
- Butter Pecan Swirl: 6g sugar per pump
- Caramel Craze: 8.67g sugar per pump
- Cocoa Mocha: 8.33g sugar per pump
- Caramel Swirl: 7.33g sugar per pump
- French Vanilla Swirl: 6g sugar per pump
- Mocha Swirl: 7g suger per pump
Honestly, I would estimate the pumpkin syrup at Dunkin to have closer to 10g of sugar per pump.
*If for some reason any big companies are reading my blog (highly unlikely), please consider adding just the syrups and cold foam nutrition information onto your nutrition guide. <3
Cereal N’ Milk Latte
At first, my thoughts were “what does this have to do with fall? What about cereal screams fall?” but then it hit me. Most kids in the USA are going back to school in the fall, and what do kids eat for breakfast? Cereal!!
It’s not as in your face as pumpkin, but debuting this latte flavor at this time actually makes perfect sense!
A medium Cereal N’ Milk Latte from Dunkin has 330 calories, 10g of fat, 11g of protein and 27g of added sugar.
This one can be slightly tricky to customize because it isn’t like you could remove a pump or two of syrup. But, to make this drink less sweet, I would ask for your latte to have half milk and half cereal milk. Or milk with a splash of cereal milk.
Here is exactly what I would say to the barista: “Hi, may I please have a cereal n’ milk latte with half milk (of your choice) and half cereal milk”.
Please note that there is currently no way to do this on their app.
Mixed Berry Daydream Refresher
The Mixed Berry Daydream Refresher is the third refresher in Dunkin’s collab with Sabrina Carpenter. I have no idea why this is considered a fall drink, but the Mango Daydream refresher had me in a chokehold during the summer so I am not mad about it.
A medium Mixed Berry Daydream Refresher has 290 calories, 5g of fat, 3g of protein and 42g of sugar (40g added sugar).
To make this drink with less sugar, you have to decrease the amount of concentrate added. The Mixed Berry Daydream Refresher uses strawberry and blueberry concentrate. This will increase the amount of oat milk added to your drink.
I would also ask for light/no cold foam.
Here is exactly what I would say to the barista: “Hi, may I please have a Mixed Berry Daydream Refresher with less concentrate (more oatmilk) and light cold foam”.
Please note that there is currently no way to do these modifications on their app.
Pumpkin Spice Signature Latte
No deep dive into a fall drink menu is complete without pumpkin! Pumpkin swirl is available for you to add to any hot or iced coffee, cold brew or espresso.
A medium Pumpkin Spice Signature Latte has 420 calories, 14g of fat, 12g of protein and 47g of added sugar.
To make this drink less sweet, I would reduce the amount of pumpkin swirl from 3 pumps to 1 pump. I would also remove the caramel drizzle and cinnamon sugar. You can keep the whipped cream if you’d like but I personally remove it. These modifications are the same for both iced and hot.
Here is exactly what I would say to the barista: “Hi, may I please have an Iced (or hot) Pumpkin Spice Signature Latte with one pump of pumpkin, no caramel drizzle and no cinnamon sugar please”.
Dunkin also has a pumpkin Coolatta but because the Coolatta base has sugar, it can be difficult to modify those drinks. I would probably steer clear of the Coolattas if you wanted to order a low sugar beverage.
Here are some combinations that I would recommend giving a try:
- Iced coffee with vanilla flavor shot and a splash of cereal milk
- Iced coffee with 1 pump pumpkin, vanilla flavor shot and light cold foam (reduced sugar Pumpkin Sugar Cookie Iced Coffee)
- Iced coffee with 1 pump pumpkin and 1 pump butter pecan
- Iced coffee with 1 pump pumpkin and hazelnut flavor shot (reduced sugar Nutty Pumpkin)
- Mixed Berry Daydream Refresher with less concentrate and green or black tea base
- Pumpkin Oatmilk Shakin Espresso with 1 pump pumpkin and vanilla flavor shot
Conclusion
I hope you enjoyed my article about the best low sugar fall drinks at Dunkin. May your drinks hit just right!
