While the menu for In-N-Out might not be very extensive, it can still be a challenge to navigate as a diabetic. In this blog post, I discuss all the diabetic friendly options that In-N-Out Burger has to offer!
What Vegetables Are Available At In-N-Out?
In-N-Out offers a very large selection of veggies that you can add to your burger. These veggies are lettuce, tomato, raw onions, whole raw onions, grilled onions, whole grilled onions, pickles and chopped chilies (pickled cascabella peppers).
I am one of those people that adds anything and everything to my burger. The veggies at In-N-Out (at least by me) are always so fresh so you really can’t go wrong!
What Condiments Are Available At In-N-Out?
The condiments that are available for your burger at In-N-Out are ketchup, mustard, and spread.
Is The Spread At In-N-Out Sugar Free?
If you are unfamiliar, one of the things In-N-Out is famous for is their spread.
And if you’re wondering “What does In-N-Out spread taste like?” their spread tastes like a combination of mayo, relish, and ketchup. People like to compare it to Thousand Islands dressing but I think Thousand Island is definitely more tangy and less satiating.
The Spread At In-N-Out is NOT sugar free. One packet of spread has 2g of sugar.
Personally, I am opting for spread. If I am at In-N-Out, I’m having spread. It’s like going to a steakhouse and ordering chicken. I simply won’t be that person.
What Is A Protein Style Burger At In-N-Out?
A protein style burger is a burger wrapped in lettuce instead of the bun.
Personally, I REALLY love the protein style burger. This is mostly because I do not love the bun at In-N-Out. To me, the bun usually tastes very crispy and kind of stale. I do not always opt for protein style burgers wherever I go. It is specifically at In-N-Out.
What Is A Protein Style Animal Style Burger At In-N-Out?
A protein style animal style burger at In-N-Out is a burger that is wrapped in lettuce and “animal style”. An animal style burger has lettuce, tomato, a mustard cooked beef patty, spread, pickles and grilled onions.
This is for sure my top recommendation for what to order as a diabetic!

What Is A Protein Style Double Double Burger At In-N-Out?
A protein style double double burger at In-N-Out is a burger with two patties and two slices of cheese wrapped in lettuce.
For more information about what In-N-Out offers, you can find their nutrition info here.
What Is A Flying Dutchman At In-N-Out?
A Flying Dutchman is two patties and two slices of cheese. That is it. Very bare bones and very popular amongst the Keto community.
Onion Wrapped Burger
You can get your burger “onion wrapped” meaning that it is wrapped in onions.
Make sure that you specify which onion you want because they have raw onion and grilled onions. You also want to make sure that you are emphasizing “wrapped” so that you have onion on both sides of the burger.
Tomato Wrapped Burger
Similar to the onion wrapped, you can also get your burger “tomato wrapped” which means that your burger will have tomatoes on both sides.
Can I Get Fries With My Burger As A Diabetic?
Yes, you can get fries with your burger as a diabetic! What kind of monster says no to fries?!
But in all seriousness, you do want to think about the overall amount of carbs in your meal. Ordering a milkshake, a burger (with a bun), AND fries will probably be too much. If, for example, you are ordering a burger (with a bun), you may want to consider splitting an order a fries.

Can A Diabetic Have Animal Style Fries At In-N-Out?
Animal style fries are fries with cheese, spread, and grilled onions.
A diabetic can have animal style fries at In-N-Out. However, because the animal style fries are pretty calorically dense, I would recommend splitting them with someone.
What Diabetic Friendly Drinks Are Available At In-N-Out?
In-N-Out offers water, Coke, Diet Coke, Cherry Coke, Root Beer, 7-Up, Dr Pepper, Pink Lemonade, Lite Pink Lemonade, Sweet Tea, Unsweetened Tea, Milk, Hot Cocoa, Coffee and Decaf Coffee.
I would recommend a diabetic stick to water, Diet Coke, Lite Pink Lemonade, Unsweetened Tea, Coffee and Decaf Coffee (black).
What Is The Lite Pink Lemonade At In-N-Out?
The Lite Pink Lemonade at In-N-Out is made with real lemon juice and sweetened with stevia and monk fruit. The Lite Pink Lemonade is 10 calories per 22oz and contains no added sugars.
Does In-N-Out Have Sugar Free Milkshakes?
In-N-Out offers chocolate, vanilla and strawberry milkshakes.
Unfortunately, In-N-Out does not currently carry sugar free milkshakes. And because the milkshakes have 61g, 55g, and 63g of sugar respectively, I would probably opt out of ordering them as a diabetic.
What Can A Diabetic Eat At In-N-Out Burger?
My personal recommendation for what a diabetic can order at In-N-Out is the following:
- A protein style animal style burger (approximately 17g carbs)
- Fries (49g carbs)
- Diet Coke (0g carbs)
This order will have a total of 66g of carbs. And yes, this is a little high for a meal, but please keep in mind that this is not an everyday meal! I do not recommend eating fast food everyday, but once in a while it is okay! And for a fast food meal, this is not bad at all!

Conclusion
I hope you enjoyed this blog post about what a diabetic can eat at In-N-Out Burger and that it helps you plan your meal! Personally, I really love In-N-Out. So if you haven’t given it a try, I defintely would recommend it, especially if you are a diabetic!
