I don’t mean to be dramatic but Sonic is my life when I am pregnant. It was the only thing that made my third trimester with baby #2 somewhat bearable. Nothing beat Texas heat like God tier ice am I right?!

But, being pregnant also meant that I needed to be extra careful about what I was putting into my body. And since I know that gestational diabetes is very prevalent in my family, I wanted to make sure that I was watching my sugar intake.

This led me to exploring menus a little bit more than I normally do, and I am happy to say that I found plenty of sugar free options at Sonic!

What sugar free flavors are available at Sonic?

Sonic has four sugar free flavor add ins, which are blackberry, diet cherry, peach, and raspberry.

Sonic also offers limes, lemons, and Sweet N Low that you can add to your beverage for free.

What drinks can be made sugar free at Sonic?

Sonic offers six different categories of beverages: soft drinks, slushes, lemonades & limeades, iced tea, coffee and other (water, milk, apple juice, cup of ice).

Drinks that can be made sugar free are some soft drinks, limeades, tea and coffee.

What drinks can NOT be made sugar free?

Drinks that can not be made sugar free at Sonic are the lemonades and slushes, although they can be modified to have less sugar.

Is Sonic Limeade sugar free?

Limeades at Sonic are made with ice, Sprite, and lime fruit.

Sonic limeades are NOT sugar free. However, you can order a diet limeade, which will be sugar free. Sonic diet limeades are made with ice, Sprite zero, and lime fruit.

Is Sonic Diet Cherry Limeade sugar free?

The diet cherry limeade at Sonic is made with cherry fruit, diet cherry flavor, Sprite zero, ice, and lime fruit.

Sonic’s diet cherry limeade is not sugar free because it contains cherry fruit. You can make this sugar free by removing the cherry fruit.

You also need to double check if you are ordering at the window. The app automatically selects diet cherry flavor for a diet cherry limeade. But, I have had instances where I have ordered a diet cherry limeade at the window and gotten a diet limeade with cherry flavor.

So, the way to order a true diet cherry limeade if you’re at the window is by saying “can I please have a diet cherry limeade with diet cherry flavor and no cherry fruit”.

Is the lemonade at Sonic sugar free?

No, the lemonade at Sonic is not sugar free.

Sonic’s all natural lemonade has anywhere from 38g-131g of sugar depending on the size.

Is Sonic ocean water sugar free?

No, the ocean water at Sonic is not sugar free.

Sonic’s ocean water is made of their blue coconut flavor, ice and Sprite. You could reduce the sugar by replacing the Sprite with Sprite Zero, but the blue coconut flavor will still have sugar.

If you wanted to get a sugar free ocean water, Sonic does sell individual drink packets that you can mix at home on Amazon. It also comes in cherry limeade, strawberry lemonade, and lemonade varieties!

Is the cold brew iced coffee at Sonic sugar free?

No, the cold brew iced coffee at Sonic is not sugar free. Instead, you can order a cup of their Green Mountain coffee and customize it to your liking.

Does Sonic have sugar free soda?

Yes, Sonic offers sugar free soda. They offer Diet Coke, Coca Cola Zero, Diet Dr Pepper, and Sprite Zero.

Does Sonic have sugar free slushies?

No, Sonic does not offer sugar free slushies.

This is because the base of the slushies at Sonic contain sugar. Even if you are ordering a slush with a sugar free flavor add in, your slush will still be anywhere from 48g-103g of sugar depending on the size.

Does Sonic have sugar free ice cream?

No, Sonic does not offer sugar free ice cream.

What are the best sugar free drinks at Sonic?

My personal favorite sugar free drinks at Sonic are:

• Diet coke or Diet Dr. Pepper with diet cherry
• Diet limeade with sugar free mango
• Unsweet tea with sugar free peach
• Water with sugar free blackberry

Of course, I order all of these with an extra cup of ice on the side!

Are there any food options for diabetics at Sonic?

With some modifications, there are food options that are diabetic friendly at Sonic.

For example, you can get a bunless hot dog or a hamburger. Sometimes, Sonic also offers grilled chicken for a limited time.

There isn’t any way to do order items without the bun on the app yet, but you can absolutely order these items at the window without the bun. Just watch out for the condiments, as those also contain sugar.

There are also diabetic friendly breakfast options at Sonic as well. You have the option to order all the breakfast sandwiches and burritos without the bun or flour tortilla. You can also order breakfast proteins, such as bacon, sausage and eggs a la carte.

Generally, if you are watching your carb and sugar intake, you are going to want to steer clear of any fried/breaded options.

Conclusion

Everyone deserves a little bit of Sonic in their life. And while watching your sugar intake can be difficult, it can also be a great opportunity to try something you may not have tried before.
