Disclaimer: I am NOT affiliated with Dutch Bros in any way and was not sponsored to write this. I just like coffee. 🙂
Starbucks is getting more and more expensive and to be quite frank I am getting really annoyed with their decline in customer service quality.
With that being said, I have been trying to venture out to other competing coffee spots in my area. One coffee stop that I am hearing a lot of buzz about is Dutch Bros!
And while I am not diabetic myself, my family does have a history of Type II diabetes. Because I have a huge sweet tooth, I try my best to limit the amount of sugar in my drinks so that I can save it for the dessert I am pairing it with.
What sugar free flavors are available at Dutch Bros?
Dutch Bros uses Torani syrups.
According to their website, the sugar free flavors that Dutch Bros currently carries are white chocolate, chocolate, caramel, vanilla, chocolate macadamia nut, hazelnut, Irish cream, peppermint (seasonal), coconut, raspberry, peach and strawberry.
What drinks can be made sugar free at Dutch Bros?
Drinks that can be made sugar free at Dutch Bros include all the Dutch classics, all of the cold brew options, an Americano, and Dutch sodas.
Energy drinks have the potential to be sugar free depending on the syrup.
Blue Rebel energy drinks are exclusively offered at Dutch Bros locations and have a flavor profile similar to Red Bull energy drinks. Dutch Bros carries a sugar free version of the Rebel energy drinks with two grams of carbs per serving. So, as long as you order them with sugar free syrups, you will be set!
This also goes for the tea offerings at Dutch Bros. For example, a Dutch Bros favorite is a Double Rainbro which is made with strawberry syrup, peach syrup, and coconut syrup. Because Dutch Bros carries the sugar free versions of all these syrups, it is an easy one for one swap.
However, you wouldn’t be able to order the passion fruit tea, because that is not a flavor that comes sugar free.
What do the sugar free drinks at Dutch Bros taste like?
Personally, I HATE the fake sugar taste, so this is definitely something I consider whenever I am ordering a coffee. In all honesty, I actually really like the syrups and the variety of choices that Dutch Bros has for sugar free options!
That being said, I do think Dutch Bros is too milky/watered down. The coffee just isn’t as strong as other coffee places. I would recommend adding a shot of espresso if you like your coffee stronger.
What do the sugar free Dutch classics at Dutch Bros taste like?
A lot of the coffees at Dutch Bros will be a breve, which is a drink of equal parts espresso and half and half. The Dutch Bros breve is created using a Kick Me Mix (half and half) and espresso.
Kicker: The Kicker be a creamy coffee drink with hints of Irish cream. Available hot, iced, or blended.
Caramelizer: The normal Caramelizer is going to have coffee, chocolate milk, caramel sauce and whipped cream. The sugar free Caramelizer will have the espresso, half and half, and sugar free caramel and chocolate sauces. Available hot, iced or blended.
Annihilator: The Annihilator will have chocolate macadamia nut syrup added to it. Available hot, iced or blended.
Cocomo: The normal Cocomo has coconut syrup, chocolate milk, espresso, and is topped with whipped cream. The sugar free version of the Cocomo will have coffee, sugar free coconut and mocha syrups. Available hot, iced or blended.

9-1-1: The 9-1-1 drink is going to be a stronger coffee option because it has six shots of espresso. It will come with half and half and Irish cream syrup that you can enjoy iced, hot, or blended.
Golden Eagle: The Golden Eagle drink combines vanilla syrup and sugar free caramel sauce. Available iced, hot or blended.
What is in the Americano at Dutch Bros?
The Americano is a popular choice at Dutch Bros if you are looking for something sugar free because it is made with espresso and hot water.
If you’re looking to customize your Americano, you can add different milk options or any of the sugar free syrups Dutch Bros offers.
What is in the cold brew at Dutch Bros?
The cold brew at Dutch Bros is made with coffee ground and water.
To customize your cold brew, you would add different milk or sugar free syrups to your order. Popular additions include chocolate and white chocolate syrup.
What milk should I get with my sugar free drink at Dutch Bros?
Dutch Bros offers a variety of milk including 2%, nonfat, and half and half milk. Dutch Bros also offers oat, almond and coconut milk.
All of the plant-based milk options will come with added sugar. Therefore, I suggest choosing a milk with a higher fat content, such as half and half.
What drinks can NOT be made sugar free at Dutch Bros?
While Dutch Bros does have a good variety of drinks that can be made sugar free, there are still some options you’ll want to steer clear of.
To start, Dutch Bros does not carry a sugar free version of every syrup. Therefore, you won’t be able to order something with a syrup that doesn’t come sugar free.
For example, Dutch Bros does not have a sugar free lavender syrup, so if you were to order a strawberry lavender green tea, it would have sugar.
Are the Dutch Freeze drinks sugar free?
No, the Dutch Freeze drinks are not sugar free because the base mix has sugar.
However, you can order a “carburater” instead. A carburater is going to be a hand blended beverage without the freeze base. You can add any sugar free syrups you like.
The only difference between a Dutch freeze and a carburater is that the carburater might come out slightly chunkier/icier.
Is the lemonade sugar free?
No, the lemonade at Dutch Bros is not sugar free.
Are Dutch Frosts sugar free?
Because the Dutch Frosts use an ice cream base, the Dutch Frosts are not sugar free.
Is the chai at Dutch Bros sugar free?
No, the chai at Dutch Bros is premixed with milk and sugar. The chai at Dutch Bros has 5g of sugar per fluid ounce.
Are there any food options for diabetics at Dutch Bros?
The current food options available at Dutch Bros are the chocolate chip muffin top, lemon poppyseed muffin top, orange cranberry muffin top, and granola bar.
Unfortunately, none of these options would be suitable for diabetics or people watching their sugar intake. The option with the lowest carb count is the granola bar, but it still has 58g of carbs.
If you do decide to purchase one of these options, I would suggest pairing it with a sugar-free beverage and some protein. For example, you can eat half of a chocolate chip muffin top and have some scrambled eggs on the side. That way, you won’t have as crazy of a spike in blood sugar compared to if you were to just eat the muffin by itself.
Conclusion
Just because you are watching your sugar intake does not mean you need to miss out on all the fun. You can still enjoy the little things like a refreshing beverage!
I hope you give one of these drinks a try and let me know how you like it!
